Parents are elated when their child speaks their very first words. It is something that is remembered and is special. The same can be said for the first words of Jesus. In his book, First Words of Jesus, Stu Epperson, Jr. writes that the first words of Jesus give a understanding of why he was born and links these first words to the Christmas narrative.
Jesus asked two questions of his parents and these two questions are the first recorded words of Jesus we have in Scripture. The questions involve why his parents were searching after him and why they did not understand what his mission was. When those two questions of Jesus are analyzed they give an amazing account of why Jesus was born.
I found this little book very insightful and a very good help in understanding the life of Jesus. It focuses on the first words of Jesus with the tie into Christmas and the tie in to Easter. This short read should benefit many and give an understanding to Christmas that might otherwise be overlooked.
