“We live in dangerous times.”
I have heard this many times and will most likely hear it more in the future. Sadly, there are evil people who desire to do evil things and bring harm to others. Disease, famine, earthquakes, tsunamis, and hurricanes are just some of the problems that humanity has faced and will most likely face again.
In his newest book, The Prayer of Protection, Joseph Prince goes through Psalm 91 as a prayer of protection for those who put their trust in God through Jesus. Prince goes through each of the major section highlighting key verses and giving examples of people who prayed for God’s protection. Prince then continues to challenge the reader to recognize Psalm 91’s power and to pray it for divine aid.
This book reminds me of The Prayer of Jabez that came out some years back. In the same reasoning, The Prayer of Protection challenges the reader to not fear and to rely on God for strength and protection.
My struggle is what I believe to be a misunderstanding of this passage. This passage does not mean that harm will not come but rather than when it comes God will give strength and grace to bear it. I fear that book does not emphasize this enough and thus is truly lacking in a veritable interpretation of Psalm 91.
