What is the church? What is her purpose?
James Bannerman, in the middle of the 1800’s wrote a treatise to answer those questions and more. Bannerman set out to give an excellent resource on what the church is, her responsibilities to its parishioners, and her relationship to those outside of the church.
Bannerman sets forth to give the best answer he can and to do so with detailed shrewdness. I found the length of this book (almost 1,000 pages) to contain a depth of knowledge but also a desire to remain Biblical without leaving openings for misinterpretation.
I must admit that this not a light read but those who desire to have some meat inside of milk would do well to get a copy of this book.
