I grew up hearing the story and singing the song about “Zacchaeus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he.” I still remember being in Sunday School and hearing the story of how Jesus and Zacchaeus met.
Today I am the father of two boys and I have the privilege of reading the story to them in a unique way: from both sides of the story. In her book, Zacchaeus and Jesus, Dandi Daley Mackall lets the reader choose to read the story as if they are Jesus or Zacchaeus. Then you flip the book and read the story from the other person’s side. Its a great way for me to keep my children engaged and learn some great lessons.
As to the book itself, the pictures are amazing and vivid. They really do a great job of giving the story some visuals. The pages, while designed to be read to children, are not cardboard-type so be careful of little children grabbing pages and tearing them. That said, this is a nice book to tell the story from both sides of Zacchaeus and Jesus.
